Stockbridge High School set to host Unsigned Senior Bowl

Most high school athletes dream of playing at the next level, but in reality, only a small percentage of those competitors take their talents from their high schools into the college arena.

In Georgia, you would assume that college scouts are at every high school and that they always find the best talent. However, many players never get recruited because they are simply overlooked.

Southeast Elite Prospects is looking to change that with their Unsigned Senior Bowl. This event will host the best unsigned seniors throughout the state of Georgia and other states in the southeast. Many of these players are not only unsigned but may have received little to no recruitment during their high school careers.

Thanks to coach Taylor Pineda of Winder-Barrow  and others, Southeast Elite Prospects decided to follow up their success in the Southeast Elite Junior Bowl in December with the Unsigned Senior Bowl.

Team White is led by their head coach, Everett William “Will” Petway III, the freshman defensive coordinator and varsity safeties coach at Villa Rica. Team Black is led by their head coach, Corey McKinney, the varsity quarterback coach at Pope.

After coaching in the Junior Bowl in December, coach Will says it was a no-brainer when asked to coach again in the Senior Bowl.

“The energy was very intense…I loved the energy of the whole game,” said Petway. “I think the guys bought into what we were doing. The kids were well engaged. They were very coachable. Because it was so organized, and the kids were bought in and coachable. I think that’s what stood out to me the most. And I’m confident that it’s going to be the same here.”

Coach McKinney believes this opportunity is one the players shouldn’t take lightly.

“The big idea behind these events is to get you more exposed,” said McKinney.“With this event, it’s going to allow these kids to get some good film against some really good competition. Another chance to show these college coaches what they could possibly do for those teams in the upcoming season.”

He continued to stress how this is just one of the things to get you to the next level “no matter how you can get there”.

Coaches and scouts from all levels and classifications will be on-site for the event to evaluate the players. Fans of these players can expect hard work and an exciting game in a fun environment.

Even though the players and coaches are there to have fun and win the game, winning is not the top priority for the coaches involved. Coach Will stresses that he wants his players to approach this game like it’s the last game they will ever play.

“I want them to be disciplined. I want leadership. I want accountability,” he said.

“I’m not saying this game doesn’t matter,” McKinney said. “I’m not going to necessarily fixate on that (winning) as being the main goal. Guys are coming out here so that they can get exposure. They’re hoping to get recruited.”

The game will take place at Stockbridge High School on Sunday, January 26th at 1 p.m.
