Tattnall County boys and girls head into region tournament play as the top seed

Tattnall County swept the Region 3 regular-season basketball schedule which guaranteed the program a place in the state tournament. The team is positioned well entering the region tournament.

The Warriors’ boys’ team finished the season strong with two wins after having their 17-game win streak broken by Vidalia, followed by a second straight loss to Crisp County. However, they rebounded with a 48-39 win over Toombs County and a 46-43 victory over Metter. The team now looks ahead to the region tournament. If both Tattnall County and Crisp County make it to the finals as expected, each will be looking to avenge its only region loss. While Tattnall County’s loss is more recent, Crisp County’s defeat will be just as much of a rallying cry. In their January 18 loss two poor shooting quarters, in the second and fourth, sank the Cougars’ chances at an undefeated region slate.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Warriors are on the same track as the boys, losing just one region game. They have won 12 of their last 14 games, with only two of those 12 wins coming by fewer than 10 points: a 44-40 victory over Cook and a 42-37 win in their last game against Metter. Outside of a rough stretch at the end of December, when they lost three of four games from December 20 to December 28, the team has been dominant, going 16-2 before and after that span. The Lady Warriors now head into the region tournament with only one major competitor, Appling County. The two teams split their season series, with Tattnall County winning 62-45 on January 10 and Appling County taking a 61-41 victory on February 1. If both teams make the region finals as expected, they will face off in another major battle, this time, with everything on the line.
