The inaugural Private vs. Public Senior All-Star Basketball game, presented by The World of Sports, Inc., will take place this Saturday at the newly-renovated Tri-Cities gymnasium in East Point. The double-header will start with the girls tipping off the action at 3:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 5:30 p.m.

This game will be a showcase for many of metro Atlanta’s unsigned seniors from both private and public schools. The players will don their own uniforms for the final time in front of scouts and high school basketball fans. The rosters will be packed with talent and the coaches in charge of the teams are championship caliber.

Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy’s Jackie Cowan will coach the girls private team which will be comprised of players from St. Pius X, St. Francis, SACA and several GISA schools.

Hilda Hankerson’s public squad will challenge the private team as the Westlake head coach will draw from a talent base that includes Luella, Morrow, Meadowcreek, Miller Grove, Langston Hughes, Hillgrove, Woodland, Mays and Arabia Mountain.

In the second game, Greenforest Christian Academy’s David Jones, fresh off the Class A-Private state title, will lead players from W.D. Mohammed, Woodward Academy, Pace Academy and SACA.

Westlake’s Darron Rogers will head the public team, featuring players from Rockdale County, South Atlanta, Mt. Zion, Westlake, Langston Hughes, Chamblee, Druid Hills and host Tri-Cities.
