Walton gets hit with forfeits, Record goes from 4-1 to 1-4

The Georgia High School Association has ruled that Walton High School has to forfeit three of its victories including a 59-16 win region over Lassiter. The ruling comes after earlier this week when Score Atlanta reported the news of Walton self-reporting to the GHSA that it had played an ineligible player on its football team. At the time, Walton was 4-1 overall and 2-1 in Class AAAAAA Region 5.

The Raiders opened the season with non-region wins over South Gwinnett and Marietta before opening region play with a win over Lassiter before losing to Roswell and beating Wheeler last Friday night. The ineligible player participated in all games except the Wheeler win so Walton’s record goes to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the region.

Walton coach Mo Dixon told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “In no way, shape or fashion was anything done intentionally,” Dixon said. “People naturally assume the worst. None of us are ever going to do anything to jeopardize a program or a kid or even your job. Nothing was manipulated. It was a mistake … Our plans are the same. We’ll try to win them all. We’ll be in the hunt. We’ll be all right. We just have no wiggle room now. But the bottom line is our kids have a chance.”
