Week 10 football rankings

After starting the season 0-4, Colquitt County has used an impressive four-game winning streak to climb to No. 7 in the Class AAAAAAA poll. The Packers’ latest win came in a 56-10 rout over Camden County. Lassiter dropped out of the poll after falling 34-23 at home to Woodstock and Brookwood re-entered the top 10 after defeating Central Gwinnett 55-45 on Friday.

In Class AAAAAA, Valdosta makes its debut at No. 1, despite having a bye this week. The Wildcats defeated Northside-Warner Robins 14-6 two weeks ago, which then defeated previous No. 1 Lee County 26-7 on Friday. Lee County will host Valdosta this week. Harrison got another strong performance from junior quarterback Justin Fields and scored a 54-0 win over South Cobb to remain perfect on the season (7-0). The Hoyas edged Lee County for No. 3 in the poll. Valdosta at Lee County and the Hoyas’ trip to undefeated and fifth-ranked Dalton on Friday brings the Week 10 spotlight to Class AAAAAA with two top 5 showdowns. Also, Coffee defeated Houston County 42-35 on Friday and replaced the Bears at No. 10. Houston County is now 0-2 in the basement of Region 1 as Valdosta, Northside-WR, Lee County and Coffee threaten their playoff hopes.

Veterans sent Thomas County Central out of the Class AAAAA top 10 with a 33-28 win on Friday. Bainbridge, which beat Veterans 31-6 before taking a bye this past week, returns to No. 10. Bainbridge has a 2-4 record, but is sitting 1-0 in the top of its region and its losses were to Lee County (29-12), Cairo (17-14) and a pair of out-of-state teams. Bainbridge and host Thomas County Central play a crucial game this Friday that will clarify the deserving team.

In Class AAAA, the top 10 held court once again in dominating fashion and remains the same for the third-straight week. There is one top 10 matchup to look forward to this weekend that could finally shake up the rankings with No. 6 Blessed Trinity visiting No. 10 Marist on Friday.

Defending state champion Pace Academy has fallen from the Top 10 in Class AAA after two straight losses. The Knights were humbled at Cedar Grove, 49-0. The Saints rise five spots to No. 4 while Pace drops out after being ranked No. 5. Replacing the Knights is No. 10 Jenkins. The Warriors are off to a 5-1 start, their only loss to No. 5 Liberty County on Sept. 9, 32-21 in Hinesville.

Class AA No. 1 Benedictine crushed Toombs County on the road 42-13 and in the process sends the Bulldogs out of the rankings. No. 4 Callaway flexed its muscle with a big win against Heard County, 24-14. With both Toombs County and Heard County out of the Top 10, No. 9 Elbert County and No. 10 Washington County join the fray. The Golden Hawks of WACO have won five straight after a 0-2 start to the season.

Class A-Private sees some shuffling in spots 5-10. Tattnall Square Academy jumps four spots to No. 5 after beating a tough Twiggs County group 34-27. First Presbyterian Day was shutout by No. 10 Stratford Academy 28-0 behind four Tyler Jordan rushing touchdowns. The Vikings are now on the outside looking in at the rankings.

With Twiggs County’s loss to Tattnall Square, the Cobras slip from No. 2 to No. 5. Randolph-Clay exits the poll after Pelham scored a 50-38 win against the Red Devils. The Hornets are now 6-1.
