Week 3 baseball rankings

In Class 7A, Walton has used a 5-game winning streak to retain its place at No. 1 in the poll, while Mill Creek makes the jump to No. 2 after scoring a pair of 4-3 wins over Collins Hill and winning at Parkview 4-2 and at Brookwood 8-1 to fuel an impressive eight-game winning streak. Parkview’s loss to Mill Creek did not change their standing at No. 3 in the poll although North Gwinnett’s 11-0 start was enough to drastically shift the rankings and put the Bulldogs at No. 4.

In Class 6A, Pope remains No. 1, while Allatoona’s 10-1 start has the Bucs at No. 2 ahead of undefeated Winder-Barrow.  Five three-loss teams occupy No. 4 through No. 8 with Harrison sitting at No. 4 and Johns Creek rounding out the top 5.

Starr’s Mill takes over the No. 1 spot in Class 5A after opening the season at No. 8, while Cartersville edges Blessed Trinity for No. 1 in Class 4A after a blazing 8-1 start to the season with wins over Johns Creek, Mill Creek, Marist, Walton, Collins Hill, Lambert and Buford on the Purple Hurricanes’ resume.

In Class 3A, Pace Academy used an 11-3 win over Greater Atlanta Christian to make its case for No. 6 in the poll. Elbert County takes advantage of a slow start for many of the favorites in Class 2A and comes in at No. 1, while previous No. 1 Benedictine slides to No. 2 with a rocky 5-7 start. Savannah Christian used a 2-1 extra-inning victory over top-ranked Holy Innocents’ to climb to No. 3 in Class A-Private. Gordon Lee handed Class A-Public No. 1 a 5-1 loss on Wednesday to take over this week’s poll.
