How the game was won: Langston Hughes pulled away in the third quarter, turning a 14-7 halftime lead into a 28-7 game after two touchdown passes (25 and 20 yards) from Isaiah Green to Rashad Burch, who finished with three total scores.

Top performers: Burch’s first touchdown of the night came in the second quarter on a 70-yard punt return. … Green finished with three touchdown passes, also throwing a 10-yard score to Deshawn Ross in the first quarter. … Aaron Finch intercepted a pass near midfield and returned it to the Douglas County 10-yard line, which set up Hughes’ first touchdown of the third quarter.

Grayson 70, Berkmar 6

How the game was won: Grayson scored its most points and notched its biggest blowout in school history at the expense of visiting Berkmar. And it could have been much worse. The Rams rolled to an incredible 49-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and recorded the game’s first 63 points. Not a single point was scored by either team in the entire second half as a running clock brought a mercifully swift end to the proceedings.

Top performers: Nick Prince of Grayson rushed 13 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns, scoring on runs of three yards and 20 yards in the second quarter. … Quarterback Chase Brice began the scoring parade early with touchdown passes to Austin Nash and Evan Sturgill. … The Bears got touchdown runs from Denzel Wright, Ernest Tiller, Cameryn Brent and Cameron Thompson. … Dimetrios Mason returned an interception 20 yards to the endzone to cap off the first-quarter scoring. … Berkmar scored its only touchdown on a 90-yard kickoff return by Chaquan Bacote.

How the game was won: Peachtree Ridge scored the game’s first 35 points, all in the first three quarters, to coast past host Mountain View. The Lions led 14-0 after one quarter, 28-0 at halftime and 35-0 heading into the fourth before Mountain View finally got on the scoreboard with nine minutes remaining.

Top performers: Peachtree Ridge scored twice on defense in the second quarter. Breon Dixon had a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown and DeAngelo Gibbs turned in a 22-yard scoop and score. Gibbs also hauled in a 26-yard scoring strike from Fred Payton in the first quarter. Payton completed six of 12 passes for 98 yards. … The Lions also got touchdown runs from Connor Heyward and Malik Robinson. … Mountain View scored on a 49-yard pass from Alex Scott to Jalen Virgil.

Norcross 47, Duluth 0

How the game was won: Norcross jumped out to a 26-0 halftime lead an would never look back en route to a 47-0 win. Quarterback Max Tracey was efficient on the night finishing 4-of-7 for 64 yards and three passing touchdowns. Norcross moved to 5-0.

Top Performers:Robert Sims hauled in three touchdown passes… Omar Sinclair finished the night with 40 yards rushing and a touchdown… Defensively Chris Allen scored on a 26-yard interception returned for touchdown and Monty Montgomery returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown.

Newnan 20, South Cobb 10

How the game was won: After falling behind 10-0 at the half, Newnan would shut out South Cobb and come from behind for a 20-10 win. Two Rad Wyrick field goals would get Newnan on the board first before Darryel Hines ran in a 1-yard touchdown with nine seconds left in the third. Newnan recovered a fumble with just less than four minutes left in the game to preserve the win.

 Top Performers: Rad Wyrick kicked field goals of 29 and 31 yards… Hines’ third quarter touchdown run proved to be the game winner.

Dacula 14, Shiloh 7

How the game was won: Dacula held off visiting Shiloh in a defensive battle thanks to some timely forced turnovers. The Falcons scored the game’s first 14 points with touchdowns in the first and third quarters before Shiloh finally got on the scoreboard. A scoreless fourth quarter prevented the Generals from getting any closer.

Top performers: Jakob Brashear got Dacula off to a strong start with a touchdown run and he iced the game with an interception late in the fourth quarter. … The Falcons also got key interceptions from Demarco McGinnis and Jaylon Jones. … Wesley Whitehead added to his team’s point total with a one-yard scoring dive. … Shiloh’s lone touchdown came on a pass from Jarren Williams to Purvis Terrell.

Collins Hill 56, Meadowcreek 8

How the game was won: Collins Hill led 35-0 at the end of the first quarter and 49-0 at halftime. The Eagles got three touchdowns from Jeremy Lewis, who scored rushing touchdowns of 30 and 10 yards and returned a kickoff 78 yards for a score.

Top performers: Jonathan Postell had a 55-yard run and a one-yard run for scores, and Evan Anderson had a 15-yard rushing touchdown. … Collins Hill had two quarterbacks throw for touchdowns. Monty Horn had a nine-yard pass to Robert Snyder, and Drew Dinsmore had an 18-yard pass to Canyon Slade. … Reggie White, Askri Smith and Kymere Faucette each had interceptions, and David Beasley recovered two fumbles for the Eagles.

Mill Creek 28, North Gwinnett 0

How the game was won: Mill Creek, which led 7-0 at halftime, sealed the win with two touchdowns in the second half from Daniel Leconte and a 19-yard touchdown pass from Cameron Turley to Miles Riley. Mill Creek held North Gwinnett to one first down in the second half and 98 total yards.

Top performers: Leconte finished with 20 rushes for 124 yards and three touchdowns: a five-yard score in the first quarter, a 51-yard score in the third and a 30-yard score in the fourth. . … Turley finished 10-for-21 passing for 110 yards and a touchdown. … Mill Creek had three interceptions, including Jonathan Gipson’s pick in the third quarter that set up the Turley touchdown pass on the next play.

How the game was won: Archer roared to a 35-0 lead over visiting Parkview and had no trouble hanging on for victory. Jamyest Williams put the game out of reach early by scoring the first three touchdowns–two on the ground and the third with an 88-yard interception return.

Top performers: Williams finished with four total touchdowns, as he tacked on a 23-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. … Will Bearden added scoring rushes of two yards and six yards for the Tigers. … Parkview did not score a single offensive touchdown but got an interception for a score by Derrion Warner and and an 85-yard punt return to the house by Malik Washington.

Creekview 21, Cass 14

How the game was won: Creekview converted two Cass turnovers into touchdowns and never looked back. A power outage would delay the game over an hour but it would not slow down Creekview, who took a 21-7 lead into the half. Cass scored a late touchdown in the third quarter but could not muster enough offense to produce a tying score.

Top Performers: Creekview quarterback Kyle Wilkie threw for a touchdown and ran for a touchdown… Cade Radam capped off a long touchdown drive with a 1 yard plunge in the second quarter… Trevor Kolb caught Wilkie’s touchdown pass… Laizon West’s 54-yard touchdown run was the only scoring in the second half.

Gainesville 28, Heritage-Conyers 0

How the game was won: Gainesville dominateed the first half while cruising the four-touchdown victory. The loss sent Heritage-Conyers to its first 0-5 start since 1987. Messiah Dorsey finished the first half 15-of-19 passing for 149 yards and two touchdowns and the defense would yield only 107 yards as Gainesville led 14-0 at the half.

Top Performers: Messiah Dorsey threw for three touchdowns to three different targets… Chris Boyd added a 7-yard touchdown run in the third quarter after an interception… Safety Chris Lyles would finish the night with four interceptions for Gainesville.

Mays 32, Lovejoy 4

How the game was won: After falling behind 4-0 on two Lovejoy safeties, Mays never trailed after going up 8-4 in the first quarter.

Top performers: B.J. Phillips had two touchdown passes, one each to Corey Reed and Randrecous Davis, and ran for a two-point conversion on Mays’ first touchdown. … Armis Stokes had a 30-yard run for a touchdown. … Mays defensive lineman Xavier Lewis intercepted a screen pass and went 20 yards for a touchdown. How the game was won: Host Cambridge scored 21 unanswered points after trailing 7-0 at halftime. Up 14-7 in the fourth quarter, Cambridge downed a punt on the Kell 1-yard line. On the ensuing Kell possession, a Cambridge defender jarred the ball loose from the Kell ball-carrier and J.D. White covered the fumble at the Kell 2 with 4:39 remaining. Several players later, Eric Sizek scored on a three-yard run to seal the win.

How the game was won: Forsyth Central led 7-0 but Riverwood treated the home crowd to 37 unanswered points to take complete control. The Raiders surged to a 30-7 halftime advantage and also scored the last 14 points of the game to put away the Bulldogs. Riverwood scored five rushing touchdowns by four different players.

Lanier 21, Loganville 6

How the game was won: Defense was the story of the night and was capped off by Lanier’s 5-star recruit Derrick Brown’s 30-yard pick six off a deflected pass. Marcko Baity and Marcella Baity scored first half touchdown runs and that would be enough scoring for the night for the Longhorns. Loganville cut the lead to 14-6 in the fourth quarter, but Brown’s interception iced the game. Lanier moves to 5-0 while Loganville drops their first contest of the season.

Mark Wright followed the Thomas score with a 46-yard touchdown run and Mark Wright connected with Jordan Bonner for a 20-yard Carrollton touchdown. Banneker answered with a 65-yard run by quarterback Avery Bond but Thomas added a 2-yard touchdown run seconds before the half. Carrollton’s Jarvis Terrell returned the opening kick of the second half for an 87-yard touchdown and Thomas scored his third rushing touchdown from 40-yards out before Angelo Osorio scored Carrollton’s last points on a 2-yard run. Banneker’s Jerrett Mumford added a 28-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown with 3:23 left.

How the game was won: The Mountaineers blocked an extra point with 8:45 left in the first half after a Dominick Genitempo 15-yard run. The blocked kick was the deciding factor as the 14-13 score remained the same throughout the second half.

Top Performers: Blake Davis tossed a 38-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7 and then would hit Brody Frazier for a 44-yard score in the second quarter to take the lead. …Tucker Gregg scored on a 1-yard run for the Indians.

Butler 27, Westside-Augusta 19 (2OT)

How the game was won: Devon Robinson intercepted Matthew Peavler at the goal line to secure a sloppy victory in double overtime. Westside had an opportunity to win the game at the end of regulation, but a 45-yard field goal was pushed left and was short. In the first overtime, Robinson scored on a 15-yard run but the Bulldogs had their extra point blocked, giving Westside a chance to win with a score and a converted XP. Aaron Commings score on a pitch for the Patriots, but Westside once again missed the kick which would end up dooming the host.
