Greater Atlanta Christian captured Saturday’s Yellow Jacket Duals title on Saturday by winning five matches and improving to 19-8 this season. The Spartans topped Adairsville, South Paulding, Rockmart and Marist. Class AAAA South Effingham had a strong top-five finish in the Rebel Invitational this weekend and will jump Marist for No. 5.

Social Circle placed fourth in state last season and shows signs of improvement in this year’s team after a first-place finish at the prestigious Panther Invitational. The 25-team tournament is one of the largest of the year and Social Circle won, despite having no first-place finishers. Commerce and Jefferson each had four top finishers, but Social Circle’s young team displayed depth as all 12 wrestlers advanced past Day 1 and five out of six Redskins wrestlers won in their consolation quarterfinals matches. Social Circle jumps Lovett, the team that beat them in the state tournament last year, for the No. 5 spot in Class AA behind GAC.

In Class AAA, Buford continues displaying an improvement in overall depth this season and placed second in the 40th Annual McGavock Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. The Wolves placed six wrestlers in the semifinals and finished runner-up in the tournament despite being the only team with just nine wrestlers. The football team was busy winning back-to-back state titles at the Georgia Dome and the team could climb into the top spot once the two-sport athletes hit the mats this week.

The Rebel Invitational showed a strong showing from four Georgia teams. Out of state Flagler Palm Coast (Fla.) took first with 277 points and Effingham County finished second with 256 points. Richmond Hill turned in a third place finish with 237.5 and Ware County placed 10 of 12 wrestlers in the top 6 and took a fourth place finish with 226 points. Ware County seniors Jacob Allen and Dakota York missed the Invitational because they were taking the ACT. As mentioned earlier, South Effingham finished fifth. Richmond Hill will replace Union Grove at No. 10 in Class AAAAA and Effingham County will debut at No. 9.

In Class AAAAAA, Grayson debuts in the poll at No. 8 after a blazing start to the season and a first place finish in the Eric Hill Memorial Invitational this weekend. The Rams edged Parkview last week 39-38 and will bump the Panthers to No. 9.
