Boys hoops rankings: Lions top 6A, GAC guards No. 1 status

In Class AAAAAA, the duo of Tyler Williams and Raymond Saunders has Westlake off to a 12-1 start. The seniors are each scoring above 16 points per game and led the Lions to a Wild Wing Cafe Hoops Classic championship in Charlotte over the holidays. Wheeler comes in at No. 2 and holds a 9-4 record with all four losses coming to out of state opponents. Walton cracks the top four with its undefeated start and 12-1 Grayson debuts at No. 9.

Undefeated Allatoona takes over No. 1 in Class AAAAA and took home the hardware at the Bellinis Jaguar Classic and the Lake City Classic titles over the holidays. Tucker edges Miller Grove for No. 2 and Jenkins sits at No. 4 after dropping a 66-63 thriller to the No. 2 Tigers in the Chick-fil-A Invitational.

Columbia is No. 1 in Class AAAA and holds notable victories over Miller Grove, Sandy Creek and Stone Mountain. Sandy Creek topped Southwest DeKalb and Fayette County and takes the No. 2 spot.

Savannah (10-2) is at the top of the poll in Class AAA and the Blue Jackets lone in-state loss came in a 58-57 visit to Tift County. No. 2 St. Pius X is 14-1 this season and the Golden Lions loss came to No. 5 Cedar Grove 46-43. 11-2 No. 3 Cartersville has been competitive in its two close losses, a 71-70 loss to Hillgrove and a 66-60 defeat to Allatoona.

Two unbeaten squads lead Class AA. 15-0 Greater Atlanta Christian owns No. 1 in Class AA and looks as dangerous as any team in the state. At No. 2 is Vidalia, who has cruised to a 13-0 start with a 43.9 average margin of victory. No. 3 Model suffered its only loss to Class AAA Cartersville 79-73.

Class A No. 1 North Cobb Christian topped Collins Hill, Woodward Academy, Whitefield Academy, North Gwinnett and Carrollton and the its three losses came to a trio of opponents all ranked in the top two in their respective classifications (Allatoona, Tucker, GAC). No. 2 Whitefield Academy topped No. 3 St. Francis 65-51 and 11-2 Landmark Christian rounds out the top 4. No. 10 Mount Vernon Presbyterian is off to an 11-1 start and enters the hoops poll for the first time.
