Football team concludes disappointing season with defeats to Stephenson, Luella

The football team ended its regular season with losses to Region 2-AAAAA teams Luella (7-3) and Stephenson (9-1). Douglass finished the 2008 season with a 3-7 overall record and 2-5 in the region, which tied it with Newton for sixth place.The Astros were shut out by No. 8 Stephenson 44-0 in the regular-season finale last Friday (ranking is according to GaSports.com Week 11 rankings). Luella defeated Douglass on Oct. 31 at Lakewood Stadium by a score of 25-14, clinching the fourth and final playoff spot in the region for the Lions. The boys cross country team finished third at the Alcovy Last Chance invitational on Oct. 25 in Covington. Jared Santifer ran an 18.31.31 to win the overall individual title, his second title of the year. Joshua White finished 12th for the Astros. Santifer also paced the squad at the Region 2-AAAAA meet in Evans by finishing 12th overall. Douglass came in fifth place overall in the region. Two runners from the girls team completed the course in the region meet, as Khonalidah Miller came in 20th overall while Ashley Cooksey finished 23rd.
