John earns freshman conference honors

Ga State Freshman golfer Allen John has been named the ColonialAthletic Association Rookie of the Year.

John put together an impressive resume during his first collegiateseason at Georgia State, placing higher than any CAA golfer in bothscoring average (72.38) and national ranking (90th).

John finished as the medalist at the 2009 CAA Championship by posting70-65-76211 (-5), leading the Panthers to a tie for first in the teamcompetition.

During his rookie campaign, John posted finishes of first, third,fourth, and seventh. John shot a career-low 65 twice, at the CAAChampionship and Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, as well as roundsof 66 and 67.

The Mannheim, Germany native was the lone freshman to receive All-CAAFirst Team honors, and was named CAA Golfer of the Week twice in2008-09. He is the second Panther ever to receive the rookie of the yearhonor (Mark Haastrup, 2006).
