No. 9 Lovett dropped its first football game of the year to Callaway 27-18 on Friday night. The team was out-gained in total yards 408-297 and gave up 325 yards on the ground. Quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff, however, passed for 203 yards for the second straight week and still has not thrown an interception. Max Williams had 98 yards of total offense, including a 38-yard touchdown run. The team travels to Buford this Friday for a rematch of the Class 2A 2007 championship game, which Buford won 50-0. The No. 1-ranked volleyball team won two and lost one during the past week (ranking is according to Week 3 Gasports.com poll). The team defeated Chattahoochee and Lakeside, both by a score of 2-0. Their lone loss was to Class 5A Kell, who is ranked No. 5 in their class. The softball team defeated Pace Academy 7-0 on Sept. 2. During the next week, they will play five games, including the North Hall Tourney on Monday. The boys cross country team finished 21st at the Berry Invitational. The girls finished 11th at the same meet.
