McDaniel takes first at state; football concludes season

The girls cross country squad won the Region 5-AAA championship meet on Nov. 1 at Mercer University in Atlanta. Bret McDaniel, the states No. 4-ranked girls runner, won the overall individual title with a time of 20.14.96 (ranking is according to gatfxc.com rankings).Mary Blais Hickey, Meredith Toman and Beatriz Labrada all put in top ten times, finishing fourth, seventh and ninth, respectively. The boys team came in fourth at the same event. James Ryden led the team with a 15th-place finish while Daniel Cohen and Phillip Jones came in 17th and 18th, respectively. The Raider football team finished its season with a flourish, dominating Clarkston by a score of 37-20 on Friday night. Riverwood snapped a two-game losing streak with the win. The Raiders finished the season 3-7 overall and 1-5 in Region 5B-AAA play. On Oct. 31, the team was defeated by No. 3-ranked region foe St. Pius by a score of 66-7. (ranking is according to GPB/Score Prep Week 11 rankings).
