Mustangs defeat Cherokee, fall to Woodstock in OT

The football team earned a much-needed road victory against winless Cherokee on Oct. 10. The 27-7 win drew the team closer in the Region 5-AAAAA playoff race.Clayton Whitlock scored two touchdowns from inside the 5 to give the Mustangs the lead. Kicker Devon Stookey contributed two field goals. The Mustangs dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to Woodstock 17-14 last Friday. It was a struggle the whole game for the offense and the Mustangs were behind 14-0 in the fourth quarter. Devon Jones scored to tie the game late. The defense held the Wolverines to a field goal in overtime but a lost fumble sealed the Mustangs fate. The team will travel to East Paulding this Friday. The volleyball team came into the Region 5-AAAAA tournament as the top seed and won the tournament in impressive fashion over Harrison 2-0 (25-17,25-18) and 3-0 (25-11,25-20,25-23) in the championship game. Lauren Hutchinson led the Mustangs with 23 kills in the win. The No. 5-ranked team in the state will now head to the state tournament in search of a title (ranking according to GaSports.com). The softball team came out of the state sectionals and is a No. 2 seed for the state finals. The team will play Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
