The GHSA Executive Committee approved the 2026-28 GHSA Region alignments during Wednesday’s meeting at the Thomaston-Upson County Civic Center and moved Gainesville back into Region 7 before ratifying the Class 6A assignments. Gainesville was among the teams that appealed to make a Lateral Transfer from one region to another during the Nov. 17 meeting, but was sent back to Region 7 when the motion was passed on Wednesday.

Now, Gainesville will be housed with Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Lanier, Milton, Riverwood and Roswell. Previously, the Red Elephants were moved into a Region 8 with Apalachee, Cedar Shoals, Clarke Central, Habersham Central, Jackson County, Loganville, Mountain View and Walnut Grove. Wednesday’s agenda began with classification appeals from Lakeside-DeKalb, Bryan County and Discovery in addition to an isolation appeal by Cook. Following those appeals, the Executive Committee motioned to ratify the classifications before discussing the region structure guidance and public/private split for Class 2A-4A. PSR Calculations with non-member schools and a discussion on proposed officiating game fees will also be included in the agenda before the session is adjourned.
