Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio has been placed on an administrative leave of absence. Fabrizio has spent the last 17 years as the head coach of the Trojans and has led them to heights never seen before. In his time as head coach, Fabrizio has gone 150-52, winning seven region titles along with state championships in 2017 and 2018. Before his tenure, the Trojans had only made the playoffs five times and won one region title, never advancing past the second round of the postseason. The leave was triggered by an alleged DUI on Sunday morning, and the final outcome is also still uncertain. For the time being, however, the current coaching staff will take over and lead the team for the rest of 2025.
In Region 2-5A, Houston County and Thomas County Central look to be on a collision course. Both teams are 6-0 and have started region play 1-0. The Bears look very different than in years past, with their defense being much improved from previous seasons. TCC, on the other hand, looks like the dominant team the Yellow Jackets were expected to be. The two teams will meet on October 24 in what could be the region championship game.
Region 3 is the only other region in 5A with an undefeated team, and it has three of them. The trio of Hughes, Lovejoy, and Northgate all sit at 6-0 and 3-0 in region play. However, fans will have to wait to see any of the three face off. The first matchup between them won’t come until October 17, when Northgate takes on Hughes in what should be an undefeated clash, with both teams heavy favorites in their upcoming games. Northgate vs. Hughes is on October 17, Lovejoy vs. Northgate follows on October 24, and Hughes vs. Lovejoy wraps up on October 31, making for an extremely exciting final three weeks of the season.
