The sport of girls basketball is growing more and more every year. Even high school players are becoming house-hold names. Marist’s Kate Harpring recently signed a deal with Adidas before her senior season. Holy Innocents’ Hailee Swann was one of the biggest names in Georgia high school basketball last season. The next great basketball players from Georgia are the DeWitt sisters Leah and Alana.
The Dewitt’s are two of the hottest names in the recruiting world with Leah holding over 30 offers before beginning her sophomore year. Alana is not to be messed with either and already holds a division one offer from South Alabama before ever playing a high school game.

The sisters play at Marietta High School where their dad, Derrick DeWitt, is the head coach. With Leah as a freshman last season, her and her dad helped Marietta to a 15-14 season and a third-seed in their region. Leah broke multiple records and awards including breaking the school record for points in a season and had the most points in all of 6A, region co-player of the year, most three pointers made in the state, and averaged 25.4 ppg (fourth in the state).
Alana will join them this season in her freshman year at Marietta. The family has already started playing together during the GBCA live period and Derrick DeWitt has loved coaching his girls.

“It's a really fun experience, and something that we planned and prepared for. And to be ready to be their high school coach, I took a step back during their middle school years to watch and evaluate because I knew I would be their Leader & Coach for the next four years of high school. During games I try not to get too excited while I appreciate their hustle and talents while I have them on my team as their dad and coach,” coach DeWitt stated.
Coach DeWitt won a 7A state championship with Marietta in 2021.
The girls have already started to click together and are taking their experience from when they were kids to the next level.
“They understand each other's strengths and have an innate feel for where they are on the court. Like there will be a rebound or a loose ball and Alana will quickly retrieve it in one hand and toss a Fastball down the court to Leah for an easy no dribble layup and. It also works the other way around with Leah finding Alana aka Juice for easy shots near the basket. It's pretty neat,” coach DeWitt continued.
Leah will participate in Overtime Select in the fall before beginning her sophomore season.
Marietta will have to make it out of a very difficult region that includes both North Paulding and Etowah in order to make it to the 6A playoffs and further.
