Week 3 Boys Basketball Rankings

Top 10 matchups and Thanksgiving Tournaments added to a busy week of games and the results caused the first big wave of shifts in the polls. In Class 6A, No. 1 ranked Wheeler held on strong after improving to 3-0 with a 68-59 victory over No. 3 ranked McEachern. No. 2 Grayson improved to 4-0 after an 86-58 road win over Central Gwinnett and will be back in action this weekend against Melissa (TX). The changes came with former No. 4 ranked Buford falling to No. 10 after its 86-70 loss to Lanier. Hillgrove replaced the Wolves at No. 4 this week after stamping a 62-60 win over Pace Academy to improve to 5-1 and win its fifth-straight game.

Gainesville took over No. 1 in Class 5A this week—rising up from No. 4 after collecting wins over Dutchtown (69-67) and Woodward Academy (52-51) to improve to 5-0. Tri-Cities dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 this week and earned a victory over ELCA after opening the year 0-3 with losses to Wheeler, McEachern and Hillgrove. Class 4A No. 1 ranked North Oconee suffered a 59-57 loss to Queen’s Grant (KY) at Hoopsgiving, but remains at the top of the poll. No. 2 Jonesboro is 1-1 after a 74-67 win over Westlake and tough 67-51 loss to Dutchtown. No. 3 Pace Academy is 0-3, but the Knights have been incredibly competitive—falling 53-52 to Holy Innocents’ and 62-60 to Hillgrove in their latest defeats.

In Class 3A, Troup slid to No. 10 after back-to-back out-of-state losses and Baldwin jumped from No. 10 to No. 6 following a 64-63 win over Class A Div. I No. 1 ranked Putnam County and a 3-0 overall start. Toombs County and Fannin County replaced Temple and Towers in Class A Div. I. Bowdon and Warren County replaced Taylor County and McIntosh County Academy in the Class A Div. II poll.

The Class A-3A Private poll shifted with Mt. Vernon rising from No. 5 to No. 3 after its blazing 5-0 start. Additionally, Hebron Christian swapped spots with Paideia at No. 9 following its 5-2 start and Paideia’s tough 1-7 overall record.
