LaMarcus Parks, a 17-year-old junior at Cedar Grove in Ellenwood, was a standout football player for the Class 3A defending champions. He made tackles in Cedar Groves 49-28 victory over Savannah Christian in the 3A championship game in December.

On Saturday, he was killed in a car accident which injured three other Cedar Grove students. DeKalb Police were dispatched to the corner of Bouldercrest and Smithfield Avenue in Ellenwood around 6:30 p.m. for a three-car accident.Parks was in critical condition and died in the hospital.

"His goal was to take his football dreams to the collegiate level after high school," Cedar Grove principal Clifton Spears said in a letter released by the school. "I hope you will remember the Parks family during this difficult time. We will also support the families of the other injured students as appropriate and requested."

The junior defensive end made 14 sacks last season, an effort which led to his selection to the first-team Region 5-3A.
