West Forsyth will promote from within as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Jacob Nichols will take over head coaching responsibilities after Dave Svehla stepped down as head coach.
Svehla still work at West Forsyth as a teacher, but is stepping down from his position to spend more time with his family.
“Coach Švehla has been an incredible leader for our football program,” said Principal Dr. Aaron Archambeau. “He has poured his heart into our students, and his impact on this school extends far beyond the field. We are grateful that he will continue teaching at West and supporting our kids in the classroom. At the same time, we are excited to welcome Coach Nichols into this new role. He understands the culture of West Forsyth and has been a key part of the program’s success. His leadership, relationships, and vision make him the right person to carry our program forward.”
During his time with the program, Svehla led the Wolverines to new heights such as three quarterfinals appearances including one in his first season in 2020 and back-to-back in 2024 and 2025. Svehla also won two region championships with the school in 2020 and 2025.
His successor, Nichols, has plenty of experience in coaching Georgia high school football as he has done so for the last 17 years.
Before his six seasons at West Forsyth, Nichols spent 11 years with the Alpharetta Raiders including serving as the head coach in six seasons where he led the school to two region championships and a quarterfinals appearance.
