Brookwood sweeps Class 6A, Johns Creek boys, Lassiter girls win at GHSA Swimming Championships

Brookwood had little issues asserting its claim to the new-look Class 6A while capturing the programs 16th and 17th --swimming trophy at the GHSA Swimming State Championship at Georgia Tech Saturday.

In the Class 5A championship, Johns Creeks boys won the teams sixth title since 2019 and fifth-consecutive championship while Lassiters girls won the teams 11th overall and sixth-straight title.

Brookwood was dominant, controlling Class 6A with a 409-point effort from the boys team, and a 427-point finish for the girls team. The boys outpaced Walton (293.5) and North Gwinnett (281). The girls defeated Harrison (269) and Walton (249).

Brookwood placed first in the boys 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard free relay.

Broncos swimmer William Stanton topped the 200-yard individual medley, the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard back stroke. The Broncos won the 200-yard freestyle relay on both sides of the class. The girls timed 1:35.57, while the boys timed 1:25.37.

Nicole Amike won gold and Sophie Hamilton placed second for the Broncos in the 50-yard freestyle. The Brookwood girls placed first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle (Nicole Amike), the 200-yard free relay and the 100-yard backstroke (Hailey Dopson).

In Class 5A, the Johns Creek boys won the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard free relay on the way to the title. On the girls side of 5A, Lassiter topped the 200-yard medley relay, the 50-yard free (Finnley Jollands), the 100-yard fly (Kate Bradley), the 100-yard free (Rose Jones), the 500-yard free (Bradley), the 100-yard back (Jollands), the 100-yard breast stroke (Ashlyn Loftin) and the 400-yard free relay.
