Class 3A Blog: Harlem baseball outlasted three-game Round 2 series, will host No. 3 Pickens in quarterfinals

The quarterfinals schedules are all but set for Class 3As baseball and soccer playoffs which will take place Wednesday and Thursday for baseball, Tuesday for the boys soccer playoffs and Monday for the girls soccer quarterfinals.

The best baseball quarterfinals double-header series sends No. 3 Pickens on a road trip to top-ranked Harlem after Pickens defeated LaGrange 4-0, 8-1 in the second round. Harlem, lucky to be alive, outlasted a three-game second-round series against Whitewater.

The Bulldogs won the first game 6-0 but lost 2-1 in Game 2. A 5-2 victory in the decisive Game 3 propelled the two-time defending champions ahead.

In a heated mid-state rivalry, Mary Persons earned a 30-minute road-trip to No. 4 Peach County after beating Upson-Lee 13-2, 14-1 in the second round. Peach County had little issues with Bainbridge after 11-1 and 13-2 victories.

In a newly-minted North Georgia rivalry, No. 6-ranked Cherokee Bluff will travel to No. 2 North Hall for the quarterfinals. North Hall beat Heritage-Catoosa in the second round while Cherokee Bluff ousted Northwest Whitfield 6-4, 6-5.

On the soccer pitch, theres one Class 3A boys soccer match Monday when No. 4 Johnson-Gainesville travels to Calhoun to determine the quarterfinalist.

On the girls side of the soccer playoffs Monday, No. 3 Dawson County will travel to No. 1 Jefferson, highlighting the four-match round. Jefferson is coming off a 7-0 victory against Lumpkin County while Dawson beat Richmond Academy 5-0 in the second round.
