Class 3A Blog: No. 4 LaGrange hosts No. 10 Troup in key Region 2 game

The race for the Region 2 title could be interesting when No. 4 LaGrange (7-1, 5-1) plays host to No. 10 Troup (7-0, 5-1) Friday.

Troup is tied with No. 2-ranked Sandy Creek (7-0, 5-0) at the top of the league standings. Sandy Creek gave LaGrange (7-1, 5-1) its only loss, 23-7 on Aug. 29. Troup will close its regular season at home against Sandy Creek.

LaGrange senior quarterback Dylan Barber is 43-of-81 passing for 708 yards and nine touchdowns with 56 carries for 517 yards and six touchdowns. Sophomore Peyton Davis adds 28 carries for 192 yards and four touchdowns. Julian Jones, Jardon Stringer and Kalvin Snowberger lead the receivers corps.

Troup is led by quarterback Garrison Edwards, who is 76-of-112 passing for 937 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 620 yards and 11 touchdowns. Javarris Warner has 64 carries for 513 yards and seven touchdowns while Trent Hodo has 47 carries for 428 yards and six touchdowns.

The Tigers receiver’s corps is led by Davis Moncus, who has 21 receptions for 223 yards and five touchdowns while Desmon Cunningham has 20 carries for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Trey Dean, Warner, Blaize Bell and Parker Townsend combine for six touchdown receptions.

-- No. 8-ranked North Clayton (7-1, 4-0) will travel to unranked but upset-minded Douglass (5-2, 3-0) in a meeting of the Region 5 unbeatens. North Clayton is coming off a 40-13 victory against Cedar Grove last week. Douglass moved last Luella 38-0 last week.

-- North Hall (7-0, 4-0) will play host to Lumpkin County (5-2, 3-1) which provides Lumpkin a chance to shake up the Region 6 standings. Lumpkin is coming off a 49-0 victory against Johnson-Gainesville while North Hall beat GAC 49-38 last week. North Hall (4-0) leads Pickens (3-1), GAC (3-1) and Lumpkin (3-1) in the Region 6 standings.
