St. Pius X and the Golden Lions have named Adam Pullen as the next head football coach of the program to take over after former head football coach Chad Garrison's departure.
Pullen becomes the 10th head football coach in the program's history after spending eight years at Westminster and most-recently serving as the defensive coordinator at Pope High School last season.
The new Golden Lions' head coach will begin his tenure on January 5th and has expressed his excitement for his new role in a press release from the school.
“My family and I are excited and grateful to be joining the St. Pius X community. Golden Lion football is rooted deeply in a tradition of pride, toughness, and excellence. We will work tirelessly to uphold this standard and produce champions both on and off the field. Domini Sumus!”
The Buchanan, Georgia-native comes from a football background as his father, Randy Pullen, spent 20 seasons as the head football coach at Haralson County High School.
St. Pius used a selection committee to make the hire for its next head coach as the committee was headed by Aaron Parr, the school President, Athletics Association president Bob Eichenberg and chaplain Fr. Robbie Cotta, interim Principal Kristin Kramer along with a select group of student-athletes and parents as well according to the press release.
“As exciting as Coach Pullen’s coaching experience and relationships are, I am just as excited to have him join the St. Pius X faculty as a science teacher. As a teacher at Westminster, Mr. Pullen was awarded the Westminster Excellence in Teaching Award as well as the national PhysTEC Teacher of the Year award,” added interim Principal Kramer per the press release. “Moreover, the Westminster student body chose to dedicate their yearbook to him in 2020, a testament to his positive relationships with students both on and off the field.”
The Golden Lions are coming off of a 6-4 record, including a fifth place finish in Region 5-4A. St. Pius defeated Dunwoody in the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic at Mercedes-Benz Stadium followed by wins over Lakeside (Atlanta), Northview, Druid Hills, North Springs, Clarkston.
