There were four regions within Class 6A that opened up region play this past week and now the upcoming Week 6 slate will mark the start of region play for two more regions—Region 4 and Region 8. The smaller six-team Region 1 and five-team Region 2 will continue non-region action this week and will be playing their first region games on Sept. 26 (Week 7) and Oct. 3 (Week 8), respectively. As for Regions 3, 5, 6 and 7, Week 6 marks the second-straight week of region contests and more ground can be gained for the victors this past week. Today’s blog will go region-by-region and set the primer for all 29 matchups in Class 6A this week.

In Region 1, Colquitt County has a rare two-game schedule to challenge the Packers this week. This Tuesday night, Colquitt County will host Monroe to play their previously scheduled matchup and then on Friday the Packers will host Rickards (FL) in their final non-region game. Colquitt County defeated Lee County 43-36 this past Friday—just four nights before tonight’s showdown. As a result, the Packers will have played three games in a one-week span. In addition to the Packers, Camden County (Royal Palm Beach) and Richmond Hill (Buchholtz) will host Florida opponents this Friday night. Tift County and Valdosta are off on byes this week and will be preparing for Week 7 when the Blue Devils host Richmond Hill and Valdosta travels to Camden County.

In Region 2, Carrollton will host Parker Alabama in a rematch of last year’s 48-26 road victory over the Thundering Head. This year’s Parker team is 4-0 heading into kickoff and ranked No. 3 in the state of Alabama and No. 66 in the Maxpreps National poll with 32-point average margin of victory. Carrollton is fresh off its 43-21 win over Gainesville.

In Region 3, Campbell will take on reigning region champion Harrison, Hillgrove will host Pebblebrook, McEachern will host Paulding County and South Cobb will visit Osborne. McEachern and Paulding County is the lone region matchup featuring teams that earned region victories last week.

Region 4 has a trio of region openers with Grayson at Grovetown, Archer at Newton and South Gwinnett at Rockdale County, while Heritage-Conyers is off on a bye. In Region 5, North Paulding and North Cobb will meet at North Paulding in a game that could crown the eventual region champion. Both teams earned region wins this past week. Marietta is also 1-0 in region play heading into this week and it will host Etowah—which was off on a bye. Wheeler and Walton are also set to square off and both teams are fresh off losses last week with Walton falling 41-7 to North Cobb and Wheeler dropping a 52-21 loss to Marietta.

Thursday has two Region 6 games with North Forsyth hosting Lambert and West Forsyth hosting Denmark. Friday night features two more matchups with Forsyth Central at Alpharetta and South Forsyth at North Atlanta.

In Region 7, there are two high-stake matchups that pair teams with 1-0 starts in region play—Peachtree Ridge at Norcross and North Gwinnett at Parkview. Three region openers are set for Region 8 with Discovery at Buford, Collins Hill at Central Gwinnett and Mountain View at Mill Creek.
