Week 9 has 21 region matchups on the schedule with a pair of Thursday games and the remaining 19 on Friday night. Score Atlanta’s Graham David reported on the departure of four-star running back Jae Lamar from Colquitt County’s roster and the Packers will be hosting Tift County this week. Currently, Lowndes and Richmond Hill are at the top of the Region 1 standings with 2-0 marks. Lowndes will travel to Camden County next and Richmond Hill has a tough road trip to Valdosta. Last week, Valdosta suffered its first loss of the season in an 18-17 heartbreaker to Colquitt County. The third matchup to watch will be Tift County at Colquitt County.

Region 2 opened its region schedule last week with four of its five teams in action. Now, Chapel Hill will have to take on No. 3 ranked Carrollton to finally open its region slate and Carrollton is coming off a 48-9 win over Westlake to move to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in region play. The Trojans have accumulated a 32.57 average margin of victory this season and won this matchup 42-0 last season. Douglas County will travel to Westlake on Friday in a rematch of last year’s 35-22 win over the Lions. The Tigers opened up region play with a 42-17 win last week and will not meet Carrollton until Oct. 31 in their regular season finale.

Region 3 has two of Class 6A’s remaining undefeated teams with McEachern and Hillgrove (Lowndes, Carrollton, Grayson, Buford). McEachern defeated previously unbeaten Harrison last Friday 48-21 to move ahead of the reigning Region 3 champions in the standings. In Region 4, Grayson, South Gwinnett and Rockdale County will be off this week—leaving just two matchups. Grovetown will visit Archer and Newton will travel to Heritage-Conyers.

Last week, Marietta defeated Walton 41-38 in double overtime and moved to the top of the Region 5 standings. Now, Marietta will host North Cobb—the only other team in Region 5 yet to suffer a region defeat. Walton will try to rebound at home against Cherokee. Defending Region 6 champion North Atlanta dropped its first region game last week against Lambert 33-31 in triple overtime. Now, the Warriors will host North Forsyth. Region 7 will have a comprehensive bye week with all of its teams off this week. Finally, Region 8 will play two games on Thursday with Buford at Dacula and Central Gwinnett at Mountain View. On Friday, Mill Creek will host Collins Hill. Last year, Collins Hill won this matchup 13-12.
