The A-3A Private has some big matchups to watch in the final week of the season, with several games set to help determine seeding for the private classification.
No. 1 Hebron Christian will travel to No. 2 Prince Avenue Christian for the Region 8-2A title. This game is a rematch of last year’s state championship, which Hebron won 56-28. Hebron is looking for its first-ever region championship, while Prince Avenue is aiming for its biggest win of the year and its sixth straight region title.
No. 3 Fellowship Christian will face No. 9 Whitefield Academy for the Region 5-A Division I title. Fellowship has been rolling since its 45-29 loss to Hebron. Whitefield is having one of the best seasons in school history; its eight wins are the most since 2008 and tied for the second-most in program history.
No. 4 Calvary Day hosts Liberty County in a key matchup for playoff seeding. The Cavaliers are 7-1 and playing extremely well. A win over Region 3’s No. 3 team, Liberty County, would give Calvary another victory over a team with a winning record, crucial for playoff seeding.
No. 5 Holy Innocents’ will host KIPP Atlanta, currently fourth in the region. The Golden Bears have been strong all season. KIPP, meanwhile, is having one of the best years in program history; its 5-4 record marks the second-most wins in school history, and a playoff berth would be only the second ever for the program.
No. 6 Savannah Christian will take on Class A-D1 No. 2 Toombs County for the Region 3-A Division I championship. Both teams are undefeated in region play and have dominated opponents. In the game last season, under similar circumstances, Savannah Christian earned a hard-fought 14-7 win.
No. 7 Greater Atlanta Christian will face Chestatee. GAC has already secured the No. 2 seed in Region 6-AAA, but a win over Chestatee would further strengthen the Spartans’ resume.
No. 8 Athens Academy has already locked up the Region 8-A Division I title and will be off this week, giving the Spartans two weeks to rest and prepare for the playoffs.
No. 10 Aquinas will play Richmond Academy in a critical battle for fourth place in Region 4-AAA. Both teams are 4-3 in region play. While the Fighting Irish are guaranteed a playoff berth, a loss could drop them to a lower seed and a much more difficult postseason path.
