Hebron Christian and Calvary Day will compete for the championship in the Class A-3A Private division. Both teams feature elite playmakers who will be key to securing a title.

The Lions are back in the championship for the second straight year. Jarvis Mathurin is the team’s top wide receiver. At 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds, he is undersized, but he is also one of the most explosive players in the state. His 1,091 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns lead the team, and he has added 284 rushing yards and three more scores.

At running back, Devon Caldwell has dominated all of Hebron’s opponents. So far this season, he has rushed for 2,287 yards and 36 touchdowns and has recorded 11 100-yard games. He has the ability to take any handoff to the end zone. Caldwell was also a major part of the team’s 2024 championship run, posting 180 yards and three touchdowns against Prince Avenue.

For Calvary Day, Emerson Lewis is the team’s best player. The 4-star 2027 cornerback is a shutdown defender who will need to be at his best for the Cavaliers to have a chance to win. He will be tasked with slowing Hebron’s top playmakers and limiting explosive plays.

The Cavaliers’ starting quarterback, James Mobley, is one of the top players in his class. The 5-foot-8 junior may not fit the prototypical mold, but that has not stopped him. He has thrown for 2,566 yards and 27 touchdowns while also rushing for 339 yards and six more. Mobley will need a big game to keep pace with Hebron’s explosive offense.

Other players to keep an eye on.
