One of the best players in Bleckley County Royals football history will have his name and his jersey forever etched in history as former Georgia and current Cincinnati Bengal offensive linemen, Amarius Mims will have his uniform retired on Friday evening when the Royals square off against East Laurens at Shelly Hayes Field at Royal Stadium on Friday night.

The ceremony for the former-Royal will take place after the first quarter.

Mims’ No. 65 was very apparent in 2019 and 2020 when he played for the Royals and now, he will be the last one to wear the number as it will be retired on Friday night.

Standing at just a little over 6-foot-7 inches tall and 340 pounds, Mims was a major recruit coming out of Bleckley County, ranking as a 5-star and one of the top players in the country according to 247Sports.com. According to the recruiting outlet, Mims rated as the No. 15 player in the United States, a top-three offensive tackle in the country, while also being rated as the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia in the Class of 2020 recruiting class.

The offensive tackles elite size and stature made him a standout offensive linemen that allowed his to accumulate plenty of prestigious offers during his time with the football program.

In his senior season in 2020, Mims was named as an AJC Super 11 player prior to the season along with the likes of linebacker Barrett Carter, linebacker Chaz Chambliss, linebacker Smael Mondon and quarterback Brock Vandagriff as some other notable names in the class.

Mims helped lead Bleckley County to an 8-4 season and a quarterfinals appearance where they lost by a field goal to Rabun County. The quarterfinals appearance was the longest playoff run the Royals football program has seen with them also making it in 2022 and 2006.

Mims spent three seasons at Georgia following Bleckley County, winning back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022 before being selected to the Cincinnati Bengals with the 18th pick of the first round in the 2024 NFL Draft.
