The first round of the GHSA state football playoffs for each classification begin tonight with many intriguing pathways for teams to take toward the championship. Looking into Class A-DI, there are plenty of matchups that people around the state will have their eyes on.
Back-to-back region champions in 2024 and 2025, the Worth County Rams (10-0,6-0) will be playing McNair (3-7,2-4), who both have talented rosters ready to fight to advance on into quarterfinals and more. Worth County played up until the quarterfinals last year where they lost to Fitzgerald, 42-38 in last year’s matchup. McNair and Worth County have never faced off before, marking the first matchup between both programs. Jeff Hammond, who has been the head coach of the Rams since 2022, has been preparing this team for this first matchup of the 2025 playoffs.
“You are only guaranteed one game and we have to be our best, we have to succeed,"' said Hammond
Reigning Class A-DI state champions, the Toombs County Bulldogs (9-1,4-0), will defend their state title with a first round matchup against Temple (5-5,1-5). The Bulldogs took their first ever state title against the Northeast Raiders last year, beating them 38-18. They are entering the postseason, seeking back-to-back state championships which would be the first time someone in the classification has done it since Prince Avenue Christian accomplished it in 2022 and 2023.
