Class A Div. II Blog: Greenville scores overtime win to improve to 2-0

The Greenville Patriots improved to 2-0 with a 32-26 overtime victory against Hardaway on Thursday. This win came on the heels of the team’s 21-14 win over host Calhoun County in the season opener. According to the Maxwell Ratings, Hardaway was a 13-point favorite in the matchup and the Hawks took last year’s game 19-12. With the win on Thursday, Greenville joins Mt. Zion-Carroll within Region 7 at 2-0 to open the season. Bowdon and Trion are both 1-1 and will face Bremen and Temple, respectively, while 0-2 Manchester is off on a bye ahead of a Week 4 showdown with host Macon County.

With a 5-4 overall record through two weeks, Region 7 has already overcome a rough Week 1 start to the season. When it comes to Region 6 though, a 1-11 record was carried into the Week 3 slate with Crawford County’s 28-7 win over Georgia Military last week being the only win in 12 total games played for the 7-team region. There were two games played on Thursday night and the results were split. Chattahoochee County and first-year head coach Mike Nash scored a 46-21 win over Jordan on Thursday and Taylor County fell 28-20 on the road to Wheeler County. As a result, Region 6 stands at 2-12 heading into Friday’s games.
