In Sylvester, Ga., the Worth County Rams are going to be putting their undefeated record on the line this Friday night with a Class A-Division I matchup, when they will be hosting the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane.

This season, the Rams (4-0) have boasted dominance on both sides of the field and shut out their first three opponents of the year in Turner County (42-0), Irwin County (28-0), and Dooly County (53-0). A September 5th matchup against Brooks County saw Worth County allow its first point against of the season, but the Rams still cruised to a 44-25 victory. Head coach Jeff Hammond, now in his fourth year leading the program, has been preparing this team to succeed and to dominate on and off the field.

“We have been doing well,” said Hammond. “We have been preparing correctly and executing ourselves more efficiently on both sides of the ball”.

This team looks similar to last year’s with plenty of returning players on both sides of the ball, but those same players came into the 2025 season more experienced and ready for the task at hand.

“We are pretty much the same team we are, facing the same test as last year,” said Hammond. “This season however, we have grown older and have grown, maturely playing this ball game. We need the fans to come out and support this team. [Fans coming to games] drives team confidence.”

The Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane are under the guidance of head coach Wesley Tankersley, who has led the team to a 2-1 record in his inaugural year at the helm with wins over Irwin County (48-0) and Crisp County (30-7), with a 3-21 loss to Brooks County last Friday. Fitzgerald has two semifinals appearances (2023-24) and three finals appearances (2020-22) across the past five seasons, including a state championship in 2021 under then head coach Tucker Pruitt.

Worth County is currently the top-ranked team in the Class A-Division I rankings, while Fitzgerald holds the No. 8 spot. Fitzgerald currently dominates the series, with an overall record of 21-10 over the Rams that dates back to 1962. The Purple Hurricane has claimed the previous 11 victories, including two from last season. With both teams still undefeated on the season, this matchup is set to serve one team its first loss of the season, and will carry ranking implications into next week as Worth County looks to claim its first win over Fitzgerald since 2010.
