Class A-Division I: Top-ranked Worth County faces Jeff Davis, No. 3 Heard plays Model

The tenth week of the Georgia High School football season arrives with streaks to protect and margins to close as region races across the state come to critical junctures. Teams are looking to cut down on mistakes and sharpen their situational play. This week will impact seeding, home-field advantage and the school's hopes for November postseason play.

Worth County barely held on to the No. 1 spot in the Score Atlanta rankings this past week and has held strong at the top. The Rams (9-0, 5-0) have played solid defense and had a great offense but have shown they can keep cool on the road in the fourth quarter. The Jeff Davis (7-1, 3-1) contest is projected as one of the Rams' tougher tests of the season, the Rams must concentrate upon the little things if they are to be successful in this matchup.

"Playing a good football team on the road is tough, we got to focus upon the little things and plays, we have to focus on the specifics of our plays and this will give us a chance to be successful,” said Worth County head coach Jeff Hammond.

Heard County's (8-0, 4-0) preparation during the week under the leadership of Shane Lasseter has translated to every Friday night. The Braves have simply committed themselves to the fundamentals and operate cleanly, and the results have followed. They meet Model (1-7, 0-4) in a Region 6-DI game, with Heard looking for some continuity and consistency against a Blue Devils squad looking for four quarters of offensive and defensive play.

"The biggest thing is that we want to be more crisp, and try to be fluid closer to the end of the season,” said Lasseter. "I have been working on the fundamentals of this team and we are excited to play."
