The Toombs County Bulldogs are looking to defend the program's first-ever state championship from a year ago as they will face off against the undefeated Worth County Rams for a shot at back-to-back titles.
Worth County is seeking the program's second state championship, and its first since 1987 under then head coach Milt Milner. This is head coach Jeff Hammond’s fourth season with the Rams football program and his first state championship appearance with Worth County following a quarterfinals appearance last season, as well as postseason appearances in each of his four seasons.
Toombs County head coach Buddy Martin is in his third season leading the Bulldogs and will be making his second state championship appearance following his first title a year ago.
Following a 13-1 state championship winning season from a year ago, head coach Buddy Martin and the Toombs County Bulldogs are looking to run the table once more, now only with Worth County standing in the way.
Junior quarterback Joseph Owens has led a potent offense that has scored 560 points on the season, while accounting for 20 total touchdowns this season. The ground game has been a massive piece of the Bulldogs offense with senior running back Justin Powell leading the charge with a whopping 1,719 yards and 33 rushing touchdowns, averaging almost nine yards a carry on almost 200 carries this season.
The Bulldogs defense is led by a three-headed monster that it found all over the field in four-star sophomore defensive lineman Jamarcus Johnson, and a pair of three-star juniors in linebacker Reed Palmer and defensive back Alex Scott who all have played major roles this season.
This season the Rams have performed at a very high level, shutting out five different opponents and allowing seven points or less to their opponents in seven matchups. The Rams are led by a pair of senior linebackers who lead Worth County in tackles this season as Brady Weaver and Chance Sims as both have played massive roles for the Rams defensive unit. Weaver has accounted for 128 total tackles and 36 tackles for loss while Sims has recorded 124 tackles and 26 tackles for loss in the Rams undefeated season.
On offense, junior quarterback Lyndon Worthy has led an efficient offensive attack for the Rams, accounting for 2,804 yards and 27 passing touchdowns. The balanced offensive attack led by Worthy showcases the Rams versatility as they have over 2,400 yards on the ground and over 2,800 yards through the air.
