The Rome football team is lucky to be safe and sound after a scary moment Thursday evening when the team bus rolled, sending at least 15 students and adults to the hospital.

The team is doing fine, Rome coach John Reid told the AJC Friday morning. About half of the 25 players on the bus were taken to the emergency room. Many had bruises, sprains and other injuries that you might imagine would occur when a bus rolls three, four times. The Rome Wolves are tough, and although we went through some trauma, we did not have a tragedy, and for that we are thankful.

According to a Georgia State Patrol report, a team bus hit a car which crossed the center line on Highway 101 near Old Rome Road, north of Rockmart. Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center reported that 12 students and three adults were treated after the accident.

Rome is set to begin its season against Creekside in the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic at historic Barron Stadium Friday at 8 p.m., the last game of a two-game doubleheader with Callaway playing Cass at 5 p.m.According to Reid, no plans will be made to alter the beginning of the season for the Wolves.
