Friday night marks just the second all-time meeting between Milton and Blessed Trinity and the difference between this year’s meeting from last year is what makes this one of the most intriguing matchups on the Week 5 slate. Milton is still ranked No. 34 in the latest national poll and is off to a 2-1 start. The Eagles have won back-to-back games since its 20-13 loss to Buford Week 1 and the 2-1 record is impressive for a team that had to replace 11 Div. I starters from last year.
Blessed Trinity was the major underdog last season when the two teams met and the Titans were able to hang around until the second half before Milton secured the 28-14 victory. After the Blessed Trinity game, Milton won every game by at least 18 or more points. While Milton is still an undeniable contender in Class 5A this season, the expectations have shifted with many considering Blessed Trinity as the favorite in this year’s head-to-head. With a blazing 3-0 start, the Titans have defeated Tri-Cities, Holy Innocents’ and Prince Avenue Christian with a 29-point average margin of victory.
Milton’s starting quarterback was injured in the season opener against Buford and the Eagles have had freshman Trey Hasan filling in. Last week against Alpharetta, Hasan completed 8-of-14 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. Blessed Trinity has one of the most dominant defensive lines in the state of Georgia and the Milton running game will have to find success to alleviate the pressure off of Hasan. Blessed Trinity has notched 16 sacks through three games and is 26 sacks away from the school’s single-season record. DJ Jacobs has five of the 16 sacks and individually is only 7.5 sacks away for the school’s all-time record. Additionally the team has 33 tackles for loss and is 45 away from the school record.
According to the Maxwell Projections for Week 5, Milton is a 13-point favorite, but all of the Score Atlanta panel predicted a Blessed Trinity victory this week and we will be covering the result tonight on the Georgia High School Postgame Show.
