Out of all the first round matchups tonight, the showdown between Blessed Trinity and Stockbridge is without a doubt one of the more intriguing pairings. The Maxwell Projections were so neck-and-neck that after all of the calculations, Blessed Trinity emerged a 1-point favorite. This season has been a tough one for the Titans and they head into the playoffs with a 6-4 overall record. Upon closer examination, those four losses were every bit as close and competitive as they were disappointing for Blessed Trinity. The Titans led Milton until the Eagles pulled away late for a 21-0 victory and then the team suffered a tough 22-17 loss to No. 1 ranked Hebron Christian. In region play, Blessed Trinity dropped two games—a 3-0 loss to Kell and a 31-28 overtime loss to Cambridge. For that reason, the four-loss Titans are still ranked in nearly every poll going into the playoffs.
This will be the first-ever meeting between Stockbridge and Blessed Trinity. The Tigers were ruled ineligible for postseason play last season and then have been a solid 8-2 team this year under second-year head coach Kendrick Callier. Like Blessed Trinity, Stockbridge has also had all of its losses determined by the thinnest of margins. The Tigers fell 28-27 to Hampton to open region play and the only other loss came 46-42 to Jones County. Stockbridge defeated eventual region champion Locust Grove 21-20.
Blessed Trinity’s defense has been superior this season and the offense has begun to run the ball very effectively. Against Cambridge, the Titans racked up 293 rushing yards and quarterback Ty Page was 11-of-16 passing for 119 yards. The MVP of the game was running back Ahmontae Pitts, who finished with 37 carries for 227 yards.
