Brooks County Class of 2027 four-star tight end George Lamons Jr. is one of the hottest prospects in the state of Georgia and with two full varsity seasons left, he has reopened his recruitment after decommitting from Texas A&M on Monday, July 21. The 6-foot-4 tight end holds offers from dozens of Power 4 programs and rose in the ranks this past season as the Trojans made a run to the Class A Div. II championship game. He finished the season with 62 receptions for 1,340 yards and 20 touchdowns, while also starring on the Trojans track and field team as an elite high jumper and sprinter. His 6-2 mark in the high jump and 23.92 time in the 200 meter dash bolster his profile as an elite athlete and his head coach Josh McFather is committed to providing guidance these next two seasons as he prepares Lamons for the next level.

“We have two big-time recruits right now that are both four-star athletes that are stepping into that world of being famous where everyone knows who George Lamons and Trae Stevenson are,” said McFather during Georgia High School Media Day this past Thursday. “And so I felt like it would be a disservice on my part if I didn’t find a way to mentally prepare them for the next level and prepare them for all the things that they are about to go through their junior and senior year.”

McFather was referencing the two sports psychologists that he has brought in this upcoming season to help Lamons balance the spotlight and day-to-day work as one of the Trojans’ top playmakers.

Lamons first committed to Texas A&M on April 19—just a few weeks after taking an unofficial visit to Florida State and he received an offer from Kentucky on May 5. More than 35 programs have offered Lamons up to this point and at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds there is interest to recruit him as a wide receiver at the next level.

Georgia Tech is another program that has been pushing hard to land Lamons and Alex Farrer spoke to him on July 1 following the Brent Key/Corky Kell + Dave Hunter 7-on-7 that was hosted by the Yellow Jackets in June where he made multiple highlight reel plays.
