Blessed Trinity and Holy Innocents’ will faceoff for just the second time in their history tonight and the expectations heading into kickoff are high for both teams this time around. Last season, Blessed Trinity was ranked No. 7 at the time of kickoff and Holy Innocents’ was unranked and in the process of replacing 19 of 22 starters from the 2023 season. The result was a 45-7 victory for Blessed Trinity and a tough result for the Golden Bears. This season, both teams are coming off Week 1 blowouts and both teams returned the bulk of their starters from 2024. Additionally, Holy Innocents’ is ranked No. 3 in both the Score Atlanta A-3A Private poll and ITG Next poll and is the No. 6 ranked team in the composite.

“Holy Innocents’ is one of the top teams in the Private School league,” said Blessed Trinity head coach Ed Dudley. “Expect them to be explosive on offense with a tough defense. We need to cage up their QB and keep his running in check while covering their dynamic receivers. This should be a really good matchup.”

Those receivers include tight end Khalid Worthy—a three-star with dozens of offers and Brayden Bailey—a two-way player and son of NFL Hall of Famer Champ Bailey.

REVISITING WEEK 1

In Holy Innocents’ abbreviated 30-0 win over North Springs, the Golden Bears received the kickoff and on the second play from scrimmage, quarterback Ryan Woods connected with Alex Coley for a 58-yard touchdown. Carson James intercepted North Springs on the next possession and returned it for a touchdown to make it 14-0. The Spartans failed a fake punt attempt on its next position and after a lightning delay Denim Stevens cashed in a goal line touchdown run after a big connection from Woods to Worthy brought the Golden Bears down to the 2-yard line. A two-point conversion by Woods pushed the lead to 30-0. From that point, Myles Jackson blocked a punt and returned it in for the touchdown and Woods found Worthy for another 2-point conversion to make it 30-0 in the first quarter before the game was called.

As for Blessed Trinity, Tri-Cities caught the Titans off guard on the fifth play of the game with a 72-yard touchdown on a tunnel screen and from that point Blessed Trinity dominated to go on to win 57-14. Jaden Calloway started at QB and was 3-for-3 passing with 2 touchdowns and 36 yards. Ty Page was 3-fot-4 for 58 yards. Segar Olsen led receivers with 2 catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. Quinn Davis scored a touchdown on 2 catches for 25 yards, and Joey Martincavage and Quinn Smith each had a catch. D.J. Jacobs led the team with 6 tackles on defense with is brother, Dawson Jacobs, right behind him with 4. Anderson Dailey, Lucas Smalls-Allen, Noah Willis, Brady Roberts, Nate Stephens and Jack Smither all finished with 2 tackles.
