Greater Atlanta Christian has a 13-year playoff streak heading into the 2025 season, and while that is a positive reflection of the program’s consistency, the Spartans’ four-straight first round exits is a streak that the program is focused on snapping this season. In order to achieve this mission and make a deep run in the playoffs, Greater Atlanta Christian will rely on several big-name prospects that are returning in 2025 and the team is also introducing a new offensive coordinator in Todd Wofford.
“We have some new faces and guys that haven’t played a ton that are ready,” said head coach Tim Hardy. “We have a new offensive coordinator because I hired Todd Wofford this year. Todd had been at Meadowcreek, Collins Hill and Central Gwinnett and in the last 15 years I don’t know if anyone has scored more points than coach Wofford has and so there's a little shift in what we are doing offensively. We’ve got some good guys getting the ball to and it’s fun to see him come to the program with fresh eyes because he told me that we have a lot of weapons here.”
In total, the Spartans will have five returning starters on offense and six guys on defense.
“One of our multi-year starters that is returning is inside linebacker Reid Voyles,” said Hardy. “He is going to be a four-year starter for us this season and he is really good in the box playing mike linebacker. Just a tough kid that is physical and he is a strong kid and leader on our team.”
There is still an active quarterback battle heading into the season. “We are still working and figuring out what we are going to do at the quarterback position this season,” said Hardy. “Denzell Watkins, who also plays cornerback has played quarterback and we are figuring out how to best use him, He is a defensive back that is committed to Army. We also have two sophomores with Michael Miller and Cash Andrews who are both great players. So we are still determining that, but I feel really good about our room and we are still exploring our options there.”
In terms of the schedule, the Spartans will face the same opponents as last year’s 4-7 finish and will have an opportunity to avenge all of those losses after dropping multiple one-possession games. After an 0-3 start to Newnan, Decatur and Westminster, GAC’s other four losses were a 27-23 battle with North Hall, a 28-25 loss to Pickens, a 30-20 loss to Chestatee and a 32-29 loss to Mt. Paran in the first round of the playoffs.
“There is some familiarity with our schedule for sure,” said Hardy. “We felt like last year when we came up short it had a lot to do with GAC and not the opponent. That is no disrespect to our schedule, but we felt like we could’ve put ourselves in a better position than we did in the private playoff.”
