Daily Dive: West Forsyth QB Max Walraven’s continued growth

West Forsyth is in good hands entering the 2025 season as senior quarterback Max Walraven begins his third year as the team’s starting quarterback. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound signal-caller has all the tools to take another step forward in his final high school season.

Walraven returns after a strong junior campaign in which he threw for over 2,100 yards and 19 touchdowns while adding more than 350 yards and seven scores on the ground. For his career, he has surpassed 3,500 passing yards with 35 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions.

Last season, Walraven showed significant growth particularly in his command of the offense. He made quick, decisive reads, whether pulling the ball down to run or making throws when receivers were open. He also improved in his ability to go through progressions. One area for him to continue to grow will be him becoming more mindful with his eyes; at times, he locks onto his primary receiver, something high-level safeties can exploit.

This season, Walraven will be working with a largely new receiving corps following the graduation of Topher Delp and Foster Orris. However, the team’s leader in receiving touchdowns, Colt Muschara, returns after posting a 300-yard, five-touchdown season. He’ll be joined by Mason Page, who is back after a 200-yard, two-touchdown junior campaign. Both are big-bodied, 6-foot-2 receivers who present matchup problems for most defenses.

In the backfield, Andrew Davis will step into the starting role, replacing the graduated Foster Orris. West Forsyth has consistently involved its running backs in the passing game, with an RB finishing as a top-three receiver each of the past three seasons, a trend Davis will likely continue.

The Wolverines face a challenging schedule in 2025, with key games against Douglass-Atlanta, Marietta, Parkview, and North Atlanta. All winnable games but each will be a tough test for the Wolverines.
