Rabun County senior running back Reid Giles is off to a strong start in the 2025 season. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound standout has been one of the most productive players in Class A-Division I. The Wildcats have dominated the first four games of their schedule, averaging 35 points per game.
Giles has already rushed for 423 yards and nine touchdowns. Through the air, he has caught 18 passes for 365 yards. On defense, he has recorded 26 tackles and one interception. So far this season, he leads the Wildcats in rushing, receiving, touchdowns, tackles, and interceptions. Along with quarterback Ty Truelove, Giles has helped spark a resurgence in the Wildcat program.
A quick and agile back, Giles combines speed with surprising power. While not the prototypical 200-pound power back, he runs with authority at the line of scrimmage and consistently finishes runs with aggression. While his size has somewhat slowed his recruitment, he already holds Division I offers from ETSU and VMI. With his performance this fall, more opportunities are likely to come, including from larger FCS programs and potentially Group of Five FBS schools.
Under Coach Rance Gillespie, Rabun County appears to be back on its winning ways. Last season, the Wildcats finished 6-5 and lost in the first round of the playoffs, marking the first time since 2014 that they missed the quarterfinals. The 2023 and 2024 seasons were also the only years since 2014 that the program failed to win a region title.
Defensively, the Wildcats have also shown major improvement in 2025. They are allowing just 12.75 points per game, which, if it holds, would be their lowest mark since 2017. That season marked the height of the Lee Shaw era, when Rabun County reached its first and only state championship game.
