The Georgia High School Association has overturned four suspensions from the Gainesville/Brunswick altercation that occurred last Friday night during the second round matchup between the two football programs.
The previously-suspended players allowed to play in Friday’s quarterfinals matchup based on the player numbers released are linebacker Xavier Griffin (Alabama-commit), defensive lineman Jamarion Matthews (Alabama-commit) and defensive backs Jamarcus Sims and Roger Holder (per MaxPreps roster). The remaining 35 players had their suspensions upheld and will not take the field this Friday.
This is coming following the GHSA ruling on Monday morning that saw Gainesville have 39 players suspended for their involvement in Friday’s skirmish as both programs were given a $5,000 fine.
The short-handed Red Elephants are set to face off against Langston Hughes this Friday on the road as they look to keep their season alive.
