Greenbrier upends Carrollton, Lumpkin downs Jordan for GHSA girls team dual wrestling titles

Greenbrier outlasted two-time defending champion Carrollton to win the Division I championship while in the newly added Division II bracket, host Lumpkin County defeated Jordan to win the title at the GHSA girls team duals state championships Saturday.

Greenbrier opened the day with a 48-27 victory against Campbell and upended Richmond Hill 51-30 to advance to the Division I championship bout against Carrollton. The Trojans advanced past Shiloh 66-18 and McEachern 69-12 before facing Greenbrier.

In the Division I championship match, Greenbrier secured victories from Kynsley Buckland (170 pounds), Stella Stancoven (100), Danyah Ahmed (105), Jansen Drumgoole (110), Journey Drumgoole (115), Esperanza Huitron (120), Abigail Sekajipo (125), Kaylynn Hottenrott (135) and Jaidyn Smith (145). After losing to Gainesville in the opening match, McEachern defeated Campbell and Richmond Hill to secure third place, while Richmond Hill earned a fourth place finish.

Lumpkin County moved past Hardaway 54-18 and Long County 60-23 before facing Jordan in the championship. Jordan opened with victories against LaFayette 66-18 and Gilmer 45-31 to earn the championship berth against Lumpkin.

In the Division II championship bout, Lumpkin secured victories from Mattie Mendoza (155), Monica McClendon (170), Faith Jones (235), Cadence Grulla (100), Emily Wilson (110), Caroline Cunningham (125), Nora Garbuzovas (135) and Greta Garbuzovas (140). After its loss to Jordan, Gilmer defeated Oglethorpe County and Chestatee to secure the third-place spot while Chestatee finished fourth.
