On Wednesday night, Sandy Creek High School retired Jabari Smith Jr.’s jersey in a ceremony at the school. The Tyrone-native averaged 24 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks per game as a senior, leading Sandy Creek to the 3A state championship game.

Smith was the top player in Georgia in the 2021 class, winning Mr. Georgia Basketball, Georgia Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year, and McDonald’s All-American Honors. After one season at Auburn, Smith was drafted third overall in the NBA draft by the Houston Rockets.

Smith was surrounded by family, friends, and teammates for the ceremony. The entirety of the Houston Rockets roster was on hand to celebrate Smith, including Kevin Durant, Alperen Sengun, Reed Sheppard, and Amen Thompson. The 22-year-old Smith will soon begin his fourth season in the NBA.
