Jonesboro star defensive back Cortez Redding announced on Friday that he will play his collegiate career with the Miami Hurricanes. He chose the Canes over NC State, Indiana, and Ole Miss.
Redding had 118 total tackles, six tackles for loss, 10 passes defended, and three interceptions last year. He does well with both man and zone coverage as his speed and mobility plays a crucial role with that. Redding’s speed makes him an effective run stopper as well.
A lot of important factors played into his decision to commit to Miami.
“All four schools are great schools, all of them have great football programs,” Redding said. “But it all came down to which one I felt most comfortable at, which coaches I feel had the best interest in me, which staff I feel like cared for me deeply outside of football and not just on the football field.”
He spoke a lot about how great his relationship is with Canes head coach Mario Cristobal.
“Coach Cristobal is a nice guy, I love everything that he does,” Redding said. “I love what he’s trying to do for Miami, come back and change the whole thing around. Nice guy to be around, gave me a lot of life advice and that’s the best part.”
Redding has a lot of things that he wants to accomplish and get better at in his senior season with the Cardinals.
“Just really help the younger guys understand that they can be better than me. And separating myself, so that when I go to college it’ll be so easy,” he said.
Redding and the Cardinals look to take a step forward this year and go deeper in the playoffs after two-consecutive second round exits. They head into their 17th season under head coach Tim Floyd.
