Norcross football is off to a hot start to its season, as the 6A school sits at a 2-0 record. This comes after defeating Mill Creek 45-28 in Week 2 in the school’s first victory since 2020 over the 2022 state champs.

Senior quarterback P.J. Wolfe took over the game and finished with an incredible four touchdowns and 257 yards. After the game, Wolfe felt good with how the team fought and came out with the victory.

“The offensive linemen played great, they gave me time in the pocket all night,” Wolfe said. “I feel like I stepped up and made some plays and just followed the game plan of Coach Hosch. I extended a couple plays with my legs and I made throws to put up points.”

Wolfe’s arm talent was on full display with a 31-yard touchdown pass on a beautiful pass right to 2027 receiver Titus Travis despite great defense from Mill Creek. Later, he threw another great pass on a 36-yard touchdown pass, and recorded two more touchdowns throughout the game. Wolfe completed his fair share of short passes and used his legs when needed. His play throughout the night was spectacular as he looks to continue to lead his dad’s alma mater to a state title.

“He definitely instilled a level of hard work and perseverance in me that allows me to compete at a high level and have a certain level of dawg to make it through any circumstance,” said Wolfe.

Senior Chase Huff was another key player in the upset. He tallied 240 yards in kickoff return yards, 10 tackles and four passes defensed. UGA-commit Carter Luckie was a force on the defensive line with four tackles for loss, 11 total tackles, and a sack.

Norcross’ head coach Corey Richardson has big shoes to fill in his inaugural season. His first victory as a head coach came against Lanier, 16-12 in Week 1. He has made a good impression on his players, with Wolfe citing the win over Mill Creek being extra “special” due to it being Richardson’s first season.

“It feels great to put the state on notice that Norcross is here and locked and loaded,” said Wolfe. “The job isn’t finished, and it’s back to work.”

Norcross is on a bye this week before getting back to action with a challenge against Walton on Sept. 5. The Raiders’ defense will pose a challenge for Wolfe and company behind Florida State-commit Noah Lavallee and 2027 safety MJ Burnett. After that, Norcross will start off region play at Duluth. In region play, Norcross will look to extend its 15-year streak of making the playoffs to 16, and make its 20th playoff appearances in the last 21 years.
