The traditional wrestling region/area tournaments begin Friday and complete the respective competitions Saturday which will populate the schedule for the GHSA traditional wrestling tournament scheduled for Feb. 13-15 at the Centreplex in Macon.

The states new highest class is Class 6A after the reclassification cycle following last season. The reigning champions are Camden County (7A), South Effingham (6A), Ola (5A), Central-Carroll (4A), Columbus (3A), Rockmart (2A), Social Circle (A) and Carrollton (girls). This season, the GHSA will award championships in Classes 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A and the girls division and the shifting nature of the reclass cycle has carved out interesting storylines entering the title bouts.

Camden County is favored in the Class 6A championship and has won eight-straight and 10 overall traditional wrestling titles. The current Class 6A champion, South Effingham, leads the Class 5A field this season.

Current 5A title holder, Ola, joins the 4A field alongside 4A champion Central-Carroll. Jefferson won the Class 5A championship in 2023 and has 24 traditional wrestling titles entering its attempt at the Class 3A crown alongside sitting 3A champion Columbus. Rockmart, the two-time defending Class 2A champion remains a favorite in that field alongside 13-time and 2022 champion Lovett.

Social Circle is the two-time defending Class A champion and has won seven traditional titles and it will try for a third this season. In the girls competition, Carrollton is favored and is coming off a finals loss against Greenbrier in the team duals championships weeks ago.
