West Laurens – which is ranked No. 7 in Class 3A – upended Baldwin 70-55 Friday to move to move to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in Region 4-3A. But it was West Laurens star Ty Cummings who had a night to remember.

Cummings – who has 88 carries for 1,332 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season – had 19 carries for 615 yards and eight touchdowns in the key region victory. The effort etched Cummings’ name into the state record books ahead of Coffee’s Tyrese Woodgett (605 yards vs. Sequoyah, 2024 playoff record), Pepperell’s Devyn Collins (485 yards vs. Rockmart, 2014) and Miller County’s Don Calloway (476 yards vs. Lanier County, 1999).

The effort accounted for eight of West Laurens’ 10 offensive touchdowns and 615 of the team’s 645 rushing yards.

“First off, Cason Pollack — he’s the quarterback, he’s not supposed to be blocking,” Cummings told 41NBC. “But if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have scored most of those touchdowns. I can’t do anything but thank God and my offensive line. Without them, nothing I do would be possible. We practice all week, we game plan on Friday, and they make it happen. I’m happy about it, but it’s just another day, another dollar. We’re going to get back to work next week.”

West Laurens is entering a rest week before traveling to Richmond Academy on Oct. 10.
