Gatorade in its 40th year of honoring the nation’s most elite high school athletes announced that Sidi Njie of the Westlake Lions Boys Track and Field team will repeat as the Gatorade Georgia Boys Track and Field Player of the Year. This award recognizes athletes' success on the field and in the classroom.
Njie won the 400-meter dash at the Region 2-6A meet this past season and his time of 45.75 seconds ranked No. 7 nationally among boys prep competitors this spring. His personal best time of 20.95 seconds in the 200 ranked him No. 31 nationally. Adding to a successful senior season, Njie won the 400 at the Class 6A state meet with a time of 46.31 seconds.
In the classroom, he has maintained a B-plus average. Njie has signed a written letter of athletic aid to compete at the University of Georgia this fall. As a commitment from Gatorade to breaking down barriers in sport, Njie will receive a grant to donate to a social impact partner.
When he won this award last year, he became the third Westlake boys track and field recipient of this award as he joined Cameron Murray (2018) and Malik Mixon (2021).
